SMILING WITH JEROME FOUNDATION was set up to provide support, assistance and compassion to individuals who are passing through difficult times with particular emphasis on those who have been diagnosed with cancer or other serious ailments.

The  Smiling With Jerome initiative was founded on the 6th of October 2017, the day that Jerome died after battling Bone Cancer for nearly 4 years straight. During his illness, he transmitted hope and courage to anyone he met especially to those who were at their most vulnerable weakest point in their life. He died at a very young age – 20 years old. Upon his death, this initiative was taken so that help, in any possible form, could be transmitted to everyone in need.

Given the high response it got, it was transformed into, and officially registered as, a proper “Foundation” in early 2018. This foundation also oversees a group called TRUE HEROES. This is made up of parents whose children have conditions which vary from serious illness to special needs and acute disabilities. These include Cancer, Epilepsy, Visual Impairment and even Blindness, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Autism, Hydrochepalus, Fybromyalgia, ROHHADNET, Multiple Sclerosis, Amputees, Heart Problems, Kidney Problems, Bleeding Disorders, Transplant procedures, Wheelchair users and even Neurological Problems. This group is continually expanding as new  members are added very frequently. Every member is accepted once a confirmation from one’s own specialist is received. Many of these children have life threatening conditions which have no cure available at the moment.

All members from this group are included free of charge. Many people are suffering in silence. Some need extra financial help, others need someone to talk to but do not know where to begin and others need that extra push to get going. This Foundation, through help from its wide range of sponsors, provides hope and courage to the persons in need. The Alfred Mizzi Foundation reached out to Jerome’s parents to help them help others in need.

Smiling with Jerome Foundation organises events for all these families (patient + parents + siblings)  free of charge throughout the whole year. Many of these families undergo lots of therapies both locally and even abroad. And these all cost money. We can really understand that any family passing through these difficult times, needs to have some time to rest, which is must needed to help with any ongoing treatment. So that’s why we are continually writing to sponsors to provide  free activities for these families. Activities include free dinners, lunches, BBQ’s, Parasailing, Movies, Outings to Animal Parks, Educational and fun visits; Pantos, Concerts, Pottery Sessions, Cooking Sessions, Spa Parties, Boat trips, Days by the Pool, Horse Riding, Parties, Beauty and Hair Sessions and Fun Parks.

During these heartbreaking times, a family must stick together despite the tension and worries and our Foundation is just the much needed help in their difficult situations.
