The Alfred Mizzi Foundation joins forces with the Notarial Archives Foundation to save unique Carmelite library
In 2022, the historic library of the Carmelite Priory in Valletta suffered severe water damage during a winter storm. Not only was the wooden library structure damaged, but so were countless manuscripts and books.
In its continued collaboration with the Notarial Archives Foundation, The Alfred Mizzi Foundation will be financing urgent repairs to the library at the Carmelite Priory in Valletta. The wonderful collection of documents and books form a collection built up over more than 400 years. This unique collection includes a number of manuscripts printed before 1500.
Since February 2024, the NAF and its committed team of volunteers have been carefully removing the books and manuscripts of the Carmelite library from the shelves, so that the wooden library structure can undergo urgent restoration.
