The Alfred Mizzi Foundation Commits €60,000 to YMCA Malta Housing Project Through Zach Vella’s Miles from Home Campaign
The Alfred Mizzi Foundation has pledged a €60,000 donation to support YMCA Malta’s Impact Project, funding the development of a shelter apartment that will provide accommodation for six individuals transitioning out of homelessness.
This donation forms part of Miles from Home, a 2,700-kilometre run from London to Malta by endurance athlete and philanthropist Zach Vella, through his organisation Home Bound.
In recognition of the Foundation’s significant contribution which will cover a major part of the required rehabilitation works, the newly developed Stage 2 apartment will be named in honour of the Foundation, Dar Alfred.
Homelessness remains a complex and growing social challenge, affecting individuals from diverse backgrounds who face housing insecurity due to economic hardship, mental health struggles, family breakdown, or systemic barriers. For many, access to safe and structured accommodation is the critical first step toward stability, dignity, and independence.
In 2025 alone, YMCA Malta’s Residential Services received 405 referrals for support. Of these, 146 individuals were accepted into the programme, including 16 accompanied minors.
YMCA Malta’s Stage 2 housing model provides residents with semi-independent living arrangements alongside structured support. This approach bridges the gap between emergency accommodation and full independence, offering guidance, life-skills development, and access to services that enable long-term reintegration into the community.
