The Alfred Mizzi Foundation donated €3,000 towards RMJ Horse Rescue the only NGO who cares for neglected horses in Malta. Based in Siggiewi, RMJ is determined to make this place a beautiful home for horses thanks to their dedicated volunteers.

RMJ great cause has grown very fast and today every horse being sent for slaughter or neglected is made aware to RMJ Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation. Approximately 300 horses are imported in Malta every year for sporting activities such as racing and polo. Due to the size of the island and the cost of their maintenance, most of these horses are destined for slaughter once they are injured and not fit for the track or retired. RMJ tries to rescue as many of these horses who are bound for slaughter.

RMJ currently homes around 80 horses in Siggiewi and they try to rehome as many of these horses some locally or abroad through the Project ‘Back to Green’. They aim to make more room for more horses by building more stables and to raise awareness in our local community.
