The Alfred Mizzi Foundation to plant 2000 trees and shrubs at il-Majjistral Nature and History Park
In an agreement reached between The Alfred Mizzi Foundation and Heritage Parks Federation (made up of Din l-Art Ħelwa, The Gaia Foundation and Nature Trust to facilitate the integrated management of Majjistral Park), the Foundation shall be planting over 2000 trees and shrubs at the Majjistral Park over the next three years. The planting of indigenous species will take place in three stages and the Majjistral Park custodians will be assisted by employees of companies from within the Alf Mizzi & Sons Group as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility programme. The sponsorship which totals €60,000, will cover costs for the purchase of saplings, the irrigation system, and the maintenance and supply of water until the plants reach the required stage of maturity.
A spokesperson from The Alfred Mizzi Foundation stressed that whilst in past years the Foundation has assisted with similar programmes, due to the current climate and environmental crisis, it will be focusing more of its resources to green initiatives like tree planting. This agreement follows a similar one with Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna where, with the help of Ambjent Malta, a few hundred trees are being planted within the grounds of Fort Rinella.
