The Alfred Mizzi Foundation has been an unwavering pillar of support for Żibel, an NGO dedicated to the preservation, enhancement and raising of awareness of the vulnerable marine environment. This year, the Foundation has sponsored the much needed overhaul of Żibel’s boat Żibla, which was purchased for the NGO six years ago. Żibla was fitted with a hoist with which to lift debris up from the seabed. With further help from The Alfred Mizzi Foundation, this past year alone, Żibel has removed over 60 ghost nets from the bottom of the sea around the Maltese Islands, thus saving an incalculable amount of fish and sea creatures from perishing.
The Alfred Mizzi Foundation is supporting a revolutionary watering system for trees planted in public spaces. Ħaż-Żebbuġ Councillor Steve Zammit Lupi, well known for his pro-environment work and initiatives, has spear-headed the installation of 200 water bags, each with a carrying capacity of 70ltrs. These are set to release the water over a weeklong period, through drip irrigation.

Mizzi Group have often participated in these clean ups.
Following a commitment to plant three thousand trees at Majjistral Park over a period of three years, work on clearing land and repairing rubble walls has been completed. The next steps will consist of the laying of the irrigation system and the actual tree planting. So far two groups from Kitchen Concepts Ltd. have spent some hours up at this National Park. Other companies from within the Alf. Mizzi and Sons Group, namely MacMed Ltd, Systec Ltd., and Strand Electronics Ltd. will be rolling up their sleeves and helping with the work over the next few weeks. This programme is generously supported by AmbjentMalta, which will be providing most of the tree and bush saplings.
